I’ve been asked to speak to the CIMCIG Marketing Conference in November about getting social in your marketing, and so I’m looking for recommendations of companies in the construction industry using social tools well.
Things are changing and in the last six months there have definitely been some new players coming on board and plenty of new examples out there to be found. I’m looking, but I wonder if you’ve seen some good work?
Here are some examples of what I’m looking for:
- A construction products company who are engaging with specifiers online;
- Consultants (architects, engineers, QS etc) who have created a community around their area of expertise;
- Social media campaigns in the construction sector that have been particularly effective.
If you specify products, do you go online to get advice? Which companies use the internet well to help you get the answers you need?
If you work in construction, who do you know who helps you do your job better, using social media and interactive tools?
Who do you think are the influencers online in the construction industry at the moment, and what are they doing?
Any suggestions for firms and individuals I should look at would be most gratefully received, and of course I’ll credit everyone who helps as usual, and share the slides from my talk.
Looking forward to seeing your favourites!

Sue,
I have 2 businesses one is a web agency (my day job) the other is with my brother a gas safety products company supplying to the catering and construction industry primarily with the upkeep and construction of schools. Because of this we are specified as a manufacturer on projects.
Because of my biz I obviously got Intelligas on board with social media too but it’s a seemingly real uphill struggle as the construction industry is often years behind the rest of the world when it comes to this sort of thing. For me it’s second nature but for my brother Andy who is from within the industry there’s still an element of finding feet.
I know it’s about focusing on what works for you and Intelligas is still in that ‘finding the focus’ period. The point is that I/we recognise the importance of this communication shift and are taking it seriously and will be ready when the industry catches up.
When the new site is done (a busy cobbler’s children wear broken shoes) there will be more social media elements to it.
If there are a lot of specifiers out there using twitter then obviously we’d love to connect and engage or indeed anyone else who might be interested in what we do.
Sue if you want any more specific info then do ask.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your contribution, I’m sure there are other firms thinking about getting things in order in this regard. Hopefully the exercise in looking for good ‘best practice’ examples will help us all identify what works well too.

Hi Lisa,
I’d like to learn more about your use of Social tools but the link only takes me to your main site with no social links? I’ve sent you an email.
