People often say they don’t do Twitter because it is just people talking about what they had for breakfast. Sometimes it is about food – food is an important part of our lives after all. But twitter is more than that.
Is baking. Here's a lovely bowl by Pru Green of Wivenhoe pic.twitter.com/Ja14vVfS

By sharing little bits of our every day lives as ‘social objects’ we share something of ourselves, our personalities. By being human we become trustworthy. Twitter enables a humble talk about baking to turn into something much more businesslike. When people finally meet me in the flesh they often say ‘I feel like I’ve known you for years’.

Conversations like this also act as a way of bringing people together in new ways. They get to know each other too. Remember, all of this, just like your conversations on the phone, are opt in. Read if you want to, don’t if you don’t.

Our conversations on twitter often cross physical boundaries. Several of the commenters on this thread are construction professionals in the USA. Others are in London, people I’ve met or haven’t, some who may become clients of mine, others I may become a client of theirs.
