Tomorrow morning I’ll be ‘up the Gherkin’ with @jablite – will you? http://bit.ly/15ByABz
-
@SuButcher we are just about ready !!
-
@SuButcher What an appallingly ugly building the walkie talkie is turning out to be
-
@SuButcher the top of the gherkin is wonderful! Enjoy
-
@SuButcher are you on whistle stop tour?
-
. @RoddyRobert I’m up the Gherkin with @jablite and around 100 architects talking about innovation in building materials
-
“@johnmcrae_orms: @SuButcher the top of the gherkin is wonderful! Enjoy > thanks, it is beautiful up here cc @jablite
-
@SuButcher – a nice shot.
-
@SuButcher and a cracking view of leadenhall …much nicer than the 20 fenchurch

“@SuButcher: Interesting issue pointed out by Andrew @PRPenv- some clients see #BIM as too innovative for them @jablite” / FFS:(
-
@antonyslumbers I’m not surprised at his point though – ‘what’s in it for me’ @PRPenv @jablite
-
@SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite Yes but fed up after decades that prop/construction world so Luddite and lacking in innovation.
-
@SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite hence clients need educating re. #BIM
-
@antonyslumbers i wonder if there’s more to it than that. intriguing idea. @SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite
-
. @tlanebuilding asks audience of 50 ‘are you more likely to specify a product if available as a #BIM ready download? – 2 people raised hand
-
@antonyslumbers Agree 100%. #BIM is the opportunity for the industry to innovate and integrate cc @SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite
-
@SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite – not a sustainable competitive advantage though. Only short term until everyone has models.
-
@SuButcher @PRPenv @jablite interesting watching this discussion from afar.
-
. @tlanebuilding brings the debate round to retrofit of commercial buildings @PRPenv says it is a growing area cc @BritishLandCR @jablite
-
. @tlanebuilding asks what areas in commercial retrofit where we would like to see innovation? (Comments welcome) @jablite
-
Richard Lee @jablite mentioning current product they are working on with @innovate_uk to reduce condensation through internal ventilation
-
It is if clients are open to suggestion @SuButcher @jablite, or they drive the design/supply chain to innovate. 1/2
-
.@CalibreSimon @jablite that’s working with clients like @BritishLandPLC who are driving innovation in the supply chain
-
I think most ppl happy with new ideas @SuButcher @jablite if confident they’ll work; we need to give that confidence… 2/2
-
@SuButcher – question for panel? Q. What’s your criteria to determine if a product is ‘innovative’? Such an overused, misunderstood word
-
@SuButcher – innovative is level pegging with ‘sustainable’ in my eyes.
-
@SuButcher I don’t know – but as soon as you figure it out I’ll be sure to add it to our product info…
-
@SuButcher EVC economic value to the customer calculations: basic discounted calcs over product lifetime. Find a procurement person to helpReplyRetweetFavorite
-
. @tlanebuilding asks who will champion innovation in the supply chain, and who is hindering it?
-
Agreed @SuButcher; @BritishLandPLC trailblazing + brilliant publicity = #sustainability + £wins on several fronts @jablite
-
.@SuButcher I see @BritishLandPLC being a client and supply chain member of choice to their clients – top strategy! @jablite
-
@SuButcher–with change comes risk–a lot of risk. I don’t trust any building products that haven’t got a 20 year track record, Sue!
-
Richard Lee @jablite points out that #greendeal is too broad brush, doesn’t recognise/encourage innovation in products via @SuButcher
-
@SuButcher @meikle567 @innovate_uk really? can’t say i’ve found compliance an issue…no innovation needed, just clear, consistent approach
-
. @MarkZweig the problem is that we’ll never meet our carbon targets without innovation @jablite
-
@SuButcher lifecycle of products
-
@SuButcher @jablite @innovate_uk we must talk healthy & transprency in materials – #Declare, @HPDstandard @livingbuilding @livingbldgUK
-
@MarkZweig @SuButcher comment from Alex Polizzi on new technology in hotels – an iPad “can’t replace a warm smile and a short skirt”.
-
@SuButcher @MarkZweig @jablite make code 6 standard for houses now. cut vat on home refurbs if they meet some sustainable standards. stop
-
@SuButcher @MarkZweig @jablite asking for permission for wind farms. make commercial buildings breaam outstanding. change the regs. the
-
@SuButcher @MarkZweig @jablite industry will respond. the piecemeal approach we have now is just daft and doesn’t help
-
@SuButcher @jablite –true, but when you’re the builder and someone’s plastic water line leaks inside a wall 10 yrs from now it’s your prob!
-
Carbon means energy, energy means economy. Ay this pace yes “@SuButcher: Do you think the 2016 zero carbon targets are unachievable?
-
> @SuButcher @jablite not actually possible to meet an undefined target! #ZeroCarbonBS
-
@SuButcher @jablite implement them now…don’t comply, pay higher 106 contributions. money talks [couldn’t think of a better cliche]
-
@SuButcher @PauleyCreative @jablite–Look at probs with plastic plumbing, synthetic stucco, and spray insulation systems over last 20 yrs…
-
. @MarkZweig @PauleyCreative @jablite the point of @innovate_uk is to mitigate the risk and reduce the cost of innovation
-
. @tlanebuilding wraps up debate – most people are keen to use innovative products if risk can be managed, is our industry up to challenge?
-
“@SuButcher: Do you think that regulation drives innovation? ~70-80% agree, 5% disagree” I agree. We don’t change unless forced to do so!
-
@SuButcher – really good tweets coming through and a great topic. Hope theres more of these to come @jablite?
-
@SuButcher @PauleyCreative @tlanebuilding–as a builder/developer myself–I don’t see how the risk CAN be managed beyond not taking it!
-
@MarkZweig @SuButcher cannot believe calls for more regulation. Change should be driven by gains not forced down our throats
-
@HotelDesigns @SuButcher–I don’t personally want any more regulation! Just saying (most) people won’t change unless forced to….
-
@MarkZweig Weakness is always the human interface
-
@MarkZweig @SuButcher people hate change. Adopt or adapt, eventually we all fall in line.
-
@phplusmag @SuButcher without doubt, regulation requires extra thinking, and more thought provokes ideas…
-
@TimlocBP @SuButcher In Ireland we build to or v close to #passivehouse just to hit compliance with regs. It’s doable, with political will
-
“@SuButcher: Do you think the 2016 zero carbon targets are unachievable? 90% of room agree @jablite”
-
For majority of builing yes- individuals may innovate without regs @phplusmag @SuButcher: Do you think that regulation drives innovation?
-
@ElrondBurrell @BenAdamSmith @SuButcher @jablite Aim for the impossible and you will achieve excellence. That’ll do me! #zcb
-
-
@ElrondBurrell @SuButcher true But High aspirations create high achievements – do imminent regulations impact that ? Even if unclear?
-
@jablite @SuButcher not if unclear. Zero carbon is a mess not a high aspiration!
-
Yes. “@SuButcher: Do you think that regulation drives innovation? ~70-80% agree, 5% disagree”
-
.@fairsnape @SuButcher > far from ‘driving’ innovation, in my experience regulation generally restrains it!
-
@jamespargeter @SuButcher absolutely, very concerning that 70-80% suggest they rely on legislation to innovate
-
@CalibreSimon @SuButcher product transparency will become a key issue in construction #sustainability
-
@fairsnape @SuButcher the innovators sit firmly in the 5% methinks – construction is so behind the curve…think motor industry 30 years ago
-
@PauleyCreative thx to @SuButcher the tweet discussions are so useful – and yes we will do more events like this
-
@fairsnape @SuButcher @innovate_uk @HPDstandard @livingbuilding @livingbldgUK agree transparency is vital. Do you refer to BRE green guide?
-
@SuButcher @BBAguru almost everyone in meeting today though regs vital – we need to communicate this to Government
-
@SuButcher @innovate_uk our Dynamic insulation insulates and ventilates, heats in winter, cools in summer 🙂
-
-
-
-
@robinbrittain @SimmondsMills @SuButcher @innovate_uk There is a short video explaining the system here http://www.jablite.co.uk/products/show/jablite-dynamic-external …/show/…
-
@robinbrittain @SimmondsMills @SuButcher @innovate_uk re: #toxicity, expanded polystyrene (EPS) is 98% air and is completely inert & stable
-
@SimmondsMills in that case you need to talk to our expert @suebjablite we will also be testing our theory with two DECC/TSB funded projects
-
@SimmondsMills @suebjablite I should say.. proving the theory!
